Other Rust Removers, Converters & Inhibitors |
Picklex®20 |
| Usable on both new and rusted metal surface, including mill scale, and does it remove rust, convert rust and inhibit rust at the same time. |
No, most of the rust converters do not work on new or sandblasted surface (bare metal surface). It needs lot of rust for bonding. On the other hand, rust inhibitors do not work on rusted surface. Most products cover up the rust including mill scale. That is the reason why they have a short term protection. Also, it does not remove any rust. The rust removers ends up with flash rust after rinsing. |
Yes, Picklex®20 can be used on new or rusted metal surface. It removes rust (red & white rust) completely, converts 100% rust including mill scale and micro-rust on the metal surface, to a very long term metallurgical protective coating (conversion coating). |
| Usable on Oil, Dust and on wet surface. |
No, Oil & Dust must to be cleaned completely before application. Cannot be used on wet surface |
Yes, it can be used on light oil, dust and wet surface. |
| Non-Toxic, Non-Flammable, Non-Hazardous. |
No, quite a few products are either extremely Flammable, Hazardous or have some Toxic chemicals. |
Yes, Environmentally safe, Non-toxic, Non-Flammable, Non-Hazardous and water soluble. |
| Easy to use. |
No, for some of them, the required amount has to be poured into a different container for use. The unused portion cannot be mixed to the product in the original container. So, the unused portion will be wasted. Also, most of the products have to be cleaned (when spilled) by detergent. |
Yes, the product is ready to use and is extremely easy and safe to use. Cleaning of the product (if spilled) can be easily done by spraying large amount of water (Picklex®20 is water soluble). Surface can be painted right after complete drying (no curing time needed). |
| Application on very hot surface |
No, Maximum 200°F |
Yes, it can be applied on very hot metal surface (around 500°F). |
| Can welding be performed on the coating |
No, because the coating will not withstand the high heat of welding and will flake or burn off. |
Yes, welding can be performed right on the coating (increases weld strength considerably with no weld spatter), because of the high temperature fusion characteristic of the coating. |
| Prevents creeping of rust |
No |
Yes |
| Temperature range for application |
Most of them has to be applied between 50°F and 90°F |
Can be applied below freezing to very hot weather, under any humidity condition. |
| Minimum number of coatings |
At least 2 to 3 coats has to be applied |
One coat is enough. |
| Coverage of surface area |
Less coverage (most of the products need more than one coat). |
Large coverage. 1 gallon covers around 1600 sq.ft. of new or bare metal surface. Needs one coat only. |
| Long Term Metal Storage |
Cannot provide long term (in terms of months) rust protection. Metal cannot be stored after application for a long period of time without painting, because the surface will start rusting. Also, most of the time the coating has to be removed for subsequent operations, such as welding, priming, painting. |
Metal surface coated with Picklex®20 provides very long-term rust protection (in terms of several years depending on the location) when stored indoors or under covered area without painting. The coating does not have to be removed for subsequent operation, such as welding, priming, painting, powder coating etc. |
